Baseball cap size chart

Baseball caps come in four closures. Fitted caps use exact fractions. Stretch-fit caps use ranges like S/M and L/XL. Snapbacks and strapbacks are adjustable and usually One Size. The chart gives the fitted size for every head measurement; the brand tables below give the stretch ranges.

Fitted vs stretch fit vs snapback

Fitted (59FIFTY, The Game fitted): exact size, no closure, cleanest look. Buy the exact fraction or size up.
Stretch fit (Flexfit, 39THIRTY, Nike Swoosh Flex): elastic band, two or three sizes, fits close. Buy the range that contains your measurement; if you sit on a boundary, go down.
Snapback and strapback (9FIFTY, dad caps, truckers): plastic snaps or a fabric strap, One Size fits roughly 55 to 62 cm. Large heads should look for XL snapbacks.

Brand ranges compared

The same head measures to different letter sizes at different brands. A 58 cm head sits where Flexfit S/M and L/XL overlap, is an M/L at Nike and an S/M at New Era 39THIRTY. This is why the calculator lists brands side by side.

Fit tips

Wool caps shrink a little; polyester performance caps do not.
A cap brim should sit about two finger-widths above your eyebrows.
For a snapback that feels loose on the last snap, add a foam sizing strip rather than buying a smaller cap.

How to measure your head

1 Use a soft tape measure, or a string and a ruler.
2 Wrap it around your head where the hat will sit: about 1 cm (⅜ in) above your ears and across the middle of your forehead.
3 Keep the tape level and snug, not tight. Do not pull it in.
4 Read the number where the tape overlaps. Measure two or three times and use the largest value.
5 Type the number into the calculator, or find it in the chart.
