Use this as a starting point. Children of the same age can differ by 3 to 4 cm, so a quick measurement beats guessing.

Kids vs adult hat sizes
Most children reach 52 to 55 cm (20 ½ to 21 ⅝ in) by age 10, which overlaps the smallest adult sizes. A child who measures 55 cm or more can wear an adult Small or a fitted 6 ⅞, which gives more style choice than kids ranges.
How to measure a child for a hat
- Have your child sit still and look straight ahead.
- Measure around the widest part of the head, just above the ears and eyebrows.
- Measure over the hair they usually wear.
- Take two readings and use the larger one.
