Stetson size chart

Stetson hats are sold in fitted fractions and, for some styles, in letter sizes. Most letters cover two fitted sizes, from X-Small (6 ⅜ to 6 ⅝) up to 3XL (8), so check the table before assuming your usual letter.

How Stetson recommends measuring

Wrap a tape around your head at the middle of the forehead and about ⅛ inch above the ear, where the sweatband will sit. Hold it firm but not tight. If you are between sizes, Stetson advises ordering the larger size and using a sizing strip in the sweatband.

Fit tips

  • Stetson felt hats can be stretched about half a size by a hatter. Straw Stetsons cannot.
  • Stetson crown height and sweatband material vary by collection, so try on the specific model if you can.

How to measure your head

  1. 1 Use a soft tape measure, or a string and a ruler.
  2. 2 Wrap it around your head where the hat will sit: about 1 cm (⅜ in) above your ears and across the middle of your forehead.
  3. 3 Keep the tape level and snug, not tight. Do not pull it in.
  4. 4 Read the number where the tape overlaps. Measure two or three times and use the largest value.
  5. 5 Type the number into the calculator, or find it in the chart.

What size is a Stetson Medium?

Stetson Medium covers fitted 7 to 7 ⅛ (56 to 57 cm). Small is 6 ¾ to 6 ⅞ and Large is 7 ¼ to 7 ⅜.

What size is a Stetson Large?

Fitted 7 ¼ to 7 ⅜ (58 to 59 cm). 7 ½ to 7 ⅝ is an X-Large.

Do Stetson hats run small?

They run true to the fitted size. Some straw models feel snug because the sweatband is rigid, which is why Stetson suggests going up if between sizes.
